I really, really hate ants. I once had a major ant infestation in my pantry. It was literally a seething black mound of millions of ants. Makes me feel ill just thinking about it! So when I saw this porcelain tea set … well, you know what I thought: Get out the Raid! Now!
In case you were wondering, the ants have all been painstakingly painted on by German artist Evelyn Bracklow of La Philie, and the porcelain made in her studio. It’s very well done. Too well done, if you ask me! You can buy her stuff on Etsy.
Yet more realistic creatures! The creator of this installation is being hailed as one of the most innovative figures in contemporary art. Cai Guo-Qiang is currently holding his first solo exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) in Brisbane until May 11.
Called ‘Falling Back to Earth’, the exhibition is described as a ‘thought-provoking vision of our relationship with the earth and with each other’. The centrepiece of the exhibition – shown below – is called Heritage 2013 and features 99 amazing replicas of animals from around the world.
Had enough of the creepy? Want to make you own art? I reckon this idea is FANTASTIC! So much so, I might just order some myself.
Combining good old-fashioned confectionary with the digital age is what Boomf is all about. They’re marshmallows printed with your own Instagram pictures! Genius!
As they say on their site: ‘Instagram lets you share your memories, but Boomf makes sharing even sweeter. And squidgier. If Willy Wonka and Proust had a brainstorm, we reckon they’d have drawn some Boomf on a napkin.’
It certainly puts another spin on toasting your friends and family! [First seen on Poppytalk]
